This One Thing Could Save You Thousands In AC Repair Costs…Or Even Save Your Life

For many Americans, Summer is one of the best times of year. We have barbecues, pot lucks, get-togethers, swimming, concerts, and so much more. But nothing saps the enjoyment out of Summer more than being stuck without air conditioning. The only thing worse than being without an AC to provide a cool environment during the Summer would be enduring it while paying more money than you have to.

In this article, we want to explain 3 very important reasons why no homeowner should be without an AC maintenance plan, including AC Tune Ups

Your Air Conditioner Will Have A Longer Life

It’s no secret that replacing your entire air conditioning unit isn’t exactly cheap. With proper care and maintenaznce though, it’s not much different than a car. Think of it this way: your car is probably rated for around 10 years or 100 thousand miles where it will still be covered under warranty. But with proper care and maintenance, there’s no reason why the car shouldn’t be able to run much further than that, provided it was a good manufacturing job with good quality parts from the beginning.

The same is true of an air conditioning unit. There’s no reason to have to go buy a new unit simply because a part goes bad, which invariably does happen, just like with cars. You’d never go without getting a tune up on your vehicle, so why not do the same for your air conditioning unit?

Simply performing this routine maintenance on your AC can actually save you up to 15% a month on your energy bills, due to the energy savings, which would essentially make the actual maintenance of the unit free once you consider the savings.

Left without the type of maintenance such as would be provided during an AC Tune Up could result in up to 5% less energy efficiency per year, racking up your heating and cooling bill.

An AC Upgrade Could Save You A Ton Of Money

Another thing we’ll check for is whether or not your unit uses R-22 freon. If it doesn’t, refrigerant leaks can be particularly costly. That’s because R-22 is in the process of being phased out completely by the United States Government due to the environmental hazards posed by R-22. So, if during a tune up, we find an R-22 based unit with a significant leaking problem, it might be far more expensive over all to replace the unit, rather than continually trying to patch a very costly problem.

The best part about this is that there are multiple financing options available with regard to replacing the AC with a newer, R410-A based unit. That means that the payments you make on your new unit may actually cost you less than running the old unit in the first place. That’s why it’s important to have an experienced HVAC technician come out to your home to inspect your unit and ensure everything is running smoothly and to plan.

You Won’t Have To Worry About Suffering…Or Worse

The truth is that there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to get a service call answered the day or or hour of an AC failure. If you have small children such as babies in the house or infants, it simply isn’t worth it. An AC failure with small children could not only result in the emotional and physical suffering of you and your loved ones, but a hospital bill could be even more costly.

Another group that should never be without AC Tune Ups or a maintenance plan are older age groups. If the elderly are exposed to extreme heat, such as the type of temperatures that can happen without a working, functional air conditioner, it can be particularly dangerous.

In fact, this article from CNN illustrates the dangers of not having functional air conditioning for the elderly, in which it reported 11 deaths as a result of elderly nursing home patients not having air conditioning.

But probably the most salient example of the necessity to central air conditioning came in 1995, when a heat wave in Chicago kill 739 people in just 5 days. And some sources report that heat waves are causing more deaths in U.S. cities than all other disasters combined.

Because there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to get service immediately, it’s absolutely critical that households with babies or the elderly stay on a maintenance plan that not only checks on the status of components in the unit, but also keeps things running smoothly, so disasters such as AC failures are less likely to happen.
